TRIP DETAILS

The Tukuche peak is located in the western Nepal Himalayas between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Although relatively less explored, Tukuche is one of the most exotic mountain climbs in Nepal. Despite being a technical climb, it’s nonetheless a favourite training mountain among prospective 8,000er climbers. The peak lies north of the exotic hidden valley. The summit of Tukuche peak also offers great vistas of the surrounding Himalayas, including the Annapurna range, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and the nearby villages such as Marpha and Jomsom. The peak was first climbed by the Swiss team in 1969.

26-Day Tukuche Peak Expedition begins with flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Pokhara to Jomsom. From Jomsom, we head west to the Marpha village, Yak Kharka, and Tukuche base camp. After proper acclimation and training, we summit the Tukuche peak and return via the same route. From Jomsom, we make a return flight to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu.

The trekking approach to Tukuche Peak is relatively straightforward and adventurous, but the summit climb itself is demanding and technical, requiring the use of specialized mountaineering equipment. Climbers must be physically and mentally fit, with strong endurance and stamina, as the ascent involves sustained effort in high-altitude conditions. With expert guidance, proper logistics, and a strong emphasis on safety, Himalaya Sacred Trek and Expedition ensures a challenging yet highly rewarding mountaineering experience.

Climbing Tukuche Peak offers an excellent opportunity to build technical skills, gain confidence at altitude, and experience one of Nepal’s lesser-known but spectacular Himalayan summits.

Highlights of the Tukuche Expedition:

  • Located in the western Nepal Himalayas between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges
  • Lies north of the exotic hidden valley
  • Offers great vistas of the surrounding himalayas, including Annapurna range, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, etc.

Itinerary

Day 01Arrival Day in Kathmandu

We complete our customs formalities at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Afterwards, there will be a representative from our company who will take you to your hotel. We can then spend the rest of the day resting. In the evening, we get to try Nepalese cuisine at a welcome dinner hosted by our company. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02Preparation and Expedition Briefing

Today is set aside for peak climbing preparation and briefing. We will organize and check all necessary climbing gear and equipment, review the climbing route and itinerary, and attend a detailed briefing. After completing the preparations, if time allows and participants are interested, we may explore nearby sites. This day ensures everyone is fully prepared as we begin our peak climbing journey from tomorrow.

Day 03Drive to Pokhara

Today, we drive to Pokhara. Be sure to catch the beautiful views of the Himalayas along the way. Pokhara offers magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapurche, the five peaks of the Annapurna range and others. Pokhara is famous for its numerous lakes, which also offer boat rides. After arriving in Pokhara, we will be transported to our hotel and in the evening, we will explore the surrounding lakeside areas.

Day 04Fly to Jomsom and Trek to Marpha

We take a morning flight to Jomsom. After exploring Jomsom, we head toward Marpha. Initially, we went downhill through the valley with mountain peaks on both sides. Cross the Syang Khola (river) and walk into the Syang village, and continue trekking towards Marpha. Overnight in Marpha.

Day 05Acclimatization and Hiking Day

Marpha is also famous as the apple capital of Nepal, where one can enjoy different items made from apples. The local apple brandy of Marpha is famous all over Nepal. The barren landscape of this area resembles Tibet.

Day 06Trek to Yak Kharka

Today we trekked to Yak Kharka from Marpha. We will be leaving civilisation behind at Marha. Cross the thinning tree line and terraced farming. Ascend along the flank of the mountain to Yak Kharka. Overnight at Yak Kharka.

Day 07Acclimatization Day at Yak Kharka

Since we gained considerable height yesterday, we will take one more day at Yak Kharka for proper acclimatization. Explore and hike around Yak Kharka.

Day 08Trek to Hidden Valley

A long day, continue trekking in Hidden Valley. The initial path carved by the yaks gives rise to more wilderness. Cross the Thapa Pass. You will notice that by now we are already into the snowline. Continue further to arrive at Hidden Valley, finally. After arriving at Hidden Valley, we set up our Tukuche Base Camp. Overnight at Hidden Valley.

Day 09Climbing Preparation and Training

Today is dedicated to pre-climb preparation and hands-on training. Under the guidance of our experienced team, you will practice essential climbing techniques and learn the correct use of equipment such as ice axes, crampons, harnesses, and fixed ropes. This training builds confidence, improves safety, and prepares you physically and mentally for the summit push ahead.

Day 10 - 21Climbing Period Mt. Tukuche Summit

During these days, we make all necessary arrangements for the summit climb, such as route fixing, among others. Initially, we moved between the base camp, Camp I and Camp II. Then we hike toward the summit, and again get back to our base camp. In this way, slowly and steadily, after making all necessary arrangements, training and acclimatization and after taking into consideration the weather conditions, we finally summit Tukuche Peak. After summiting the peak, get back to base camp again.

Day 22Trek to Yak Kharka

Tackling around the cairns, we proceed along the snowy path. After a few hours of walking in the snow, we arrive at the top of the Thapa pass. The descent from there is rather flat. Toward late afternoon, we arrived at Yak Kharka. From Yak Kharka, it’s an even steeper descent leading finally to Marpha.

Day 23Drive Back to Pokhara

On this day, we will drive back to Pokhara, and then we will transfer you to the hotel in Pokhara. The journey offers scenic views throughout, with diverse landscapes and towering peaks providing a welcome treat after the trek. Upon reaching Pokhara, we can rest or enjoy the beautiful city and its attractions. The lakeside area is especially famous for offering lively nights.

Day 24Drive back to Kathmandu

On this day, we will drive back to Kathmandu along the Prithvi Highway. The drive presents beautiful roadside settlements and gorgeous landscapes all the way to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will transfer you to the hotel, and then you can rest or shop for souvenirs to mark the end of the adventurous journey. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 25Leisure Day in Kathmandu

After the long, exhausting trek, you might have worn out a bit. Today, you can do some relaxation activities or just take some rest and connect with your friends and family back home. You can also just wander down the lively streets of Thamel and Asan and buy some souvenirs. In the evening, your tour officer will pick you up for dinner at one of the cultural restaurants of Thamel. After the dinner, you will be escorted back to your hotel.
