Larkya Peak (6,416 m) is located in the Manaslu Himal range of western Nepal, in the Gorkha district. The peak was closed to climbers until 2002, when the Government of Nepal officially opened it for mountaineering under the regulation of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Since then, Larkya Peak has remained one of the region’s most rarely climbed and least explored summits.
This striking and technically demanding peak offers a truly pristine mountaineering experience along an unspoiled route. From its summit, climbers are rewarded with magnificent panoramic views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Annapurna, Himalchuli, Buddha Himal, Shringi Himal, and many other Himalayan giants. The trail approaches the mountain from the north, passing through remote villages of Tibetan origin, where ancient traditions, monasteries, and unique cultural heritage remain beautifully preserved.
Larkya Peak is classified as a Group “A” technical peak by the Nepal Mountaineering Association, indicating that it requires strong physical fitness, mental endurance, and previous mountaineering experience. The climb involves high-altitude challenges and technical sections, making it suitable for experienced climbers seeking a rewarding and less-crowded Himalayan expedition. Our expert mountain guides and climbing team provide professional support, safety management, and technical assistance to ensure a successful summit attempt.
The best seasons for climbing Larkya Peak are March to May (spring) and September to December (autumn), when weather conditions are generally more stable, and visibility is at its best. While some advanced climbers may attempt the peak during the off-season, these months offer the safest and most reliable conditions. Accommodation during the expedition is arranged in a combination of teahouses and camping, depending on the remoteness of each stage of the route.
In addition to its mountaineering appeal, the journey to Larkya Peak with Himalaya Sacred Trek and Expedition provides a rare opportunity to explore one of Nepal’s most isolated regions, rich in biodiversity, landscapes untouched by mass tourism, and the traditional lifestyle of the Gurung and Tibetan-influenced communities along the route.
