Bird watching tour in Nepal is one of the popular adventure tours for those who love nature and the birds of Nepal. Every year, dedicated bird watchers and conservationists survey bird species occurring all over the country. Curated by Himalaya Sacred Trek and Expedition, this tour offers an enriching experience close to nature while supporting conservation awareness.
Nepal is a bird watcher’s paradise with 873 species (10% of the world’s total bird species) of birds. Nepal, though small in size, has all kinds of habitats for birds-wetlands, lakes, tropical and subtropical forests, coniferous and Himalayan habitats.
The 7-day Bird Watching Tour in Kathmandu takes you through the jungle of the Kathmandu valley, wildlife reserves, and many other conservation areas and parks. Birds of 500 species are found in the capital city, Kathmandu, alone. The famous places for bird watching in Kathmandu are Phulchowki, Godavari, Nagarjun, Bagmati River, and so on.Â

We complete our customs formalities at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Afterwards, there will be a representative from our company who will take you to your hotel. You can start bird watching from the Godavari Botanical Garden. After having a short city tour for bird watching through the rivers of Bagmati and Manohara, set in the evening for a bird watching trip in Godavari. Stay overnight in the hotel at the Godavari.
After breakfast, depart with a packed lunch and hike up to Phulchowki Hill. The forested hillside trail is rich in outstanding flora and diverse birdlife. Phulchowki has a high density of bird species, with around 90 species recorded in the area, including the endemic spring babbler, as well as the cutia, mountain hawk-eagle, rufous-bellied pied woodpecker, and black-throated parrotbill, among others. In the evening, return to Kathmandu.
Shivapuri can be reached in two ways, either from Sundarijal or from Budhanilkantha. The park is home to around 318 species of birds. In certain areas, you may spot laughing thrushes, crested serpent eagles, little pied flycatchers, ruby-throats, and babblers. In the Nagarjun area, bird species such as the northern eagle owl, red-billed blue magpie, long-tailed mountain thrush, chestnut-headed bee-eater, maroon oriole, large hawk-cuckoo, and Eurasian woodcock can often be observed at close range. After the excursion, return to the hotel in Nagarkot.
With a morning drive from Nagarkot, we will reach the Dhulikhel hill resort in almost 1.5 hours. The Dhulikhel area has a jungle surrounding it. The community-managed forests in the Dhulikhel-Banepa-Panauti corridor are the habitat for more than 72 bird species. We spent the day there bird watching in the jungle. After boarding, we return to the hotel and stay overnight there.Â
We drive back to Kathmandu and transport you to your hotel. After relaxing for some time, we could go sightseeing in Boudha, Swayambhunath, or Thamel to buy souvenirs. We will stay overnight in a hotel.Â
Your adventure for this trip comes to an end today! We will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal. Â
