Kathmandu Valley Short Trek, also known as short hiking around Kathmandu rim, is a truly beautiful trekking area for those who have limited time, which offers you to explore some of the best view points near kathmandu and the suggested trekking package also allows you to visit one of the best bird sanctuaries of Nepal. 

The 9-day trek begins with a one-hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Kakani, followed by a trek to Narayan Bhanjyang, where you stay overnight at a lodge. The next day, the trail ascends to Shivapuri Danda Ridge, offering peaceful forest walks and panoramic views. From Shivapuri Danda Ridge, the trek continues to Chisapani, with an overnight stay at a lodge.

On the following day, you trek to Nagarkot Hill, famous for its spectacular sunrise and sunset views, and stay overnight. The journey then continues from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel, with an overnight stay at Dhulikhel. From there, you trek to the sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site of Namobuddha, where you stay overnight at a lodge. The next day, the trail descends from Namobuddha to Panauti, followed by a drive back to Kathmandu for an overnight stay at the hotel. The trip concludes with a transfer to the international airport for final departure.

The entire hiking route passes through Shivapuri National Park, where trekkers may encounter diverse wildlife and rare wildflowers while walking through pristine forests and natural landscapes.

Shivapuri and Nagarkot hilltops are renowned for their magnificent panoramic views. Trekkers are rewarded with stunning sights of Himalayan peaks such as Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Langtang Lirung, and Shishapangma, making this short trek a rewarding Himalayan experience close to Kathmandu with Himalaya Sacred Trek and Expedition.

Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu

Namaste and Heartily welcome to Nepal. Our company representatives welcome you warmly at the international airport of Kathmandu and transfer you to the hotel. You take your rest and enjoy your meal in the evening. Also, the trekking guide would do a briefing or explain to you about the trek. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 02Drive from Kathmandu to Kakani (2,030m, 3 - 4 hours drive) and Trek to Narayan Bhanjyang (3-4 hrs)

With the excitement of the trip, today we will make our drive to Kakani for 3 – 4 hours after a fresh breakfast in the morning. We will slowly reach a less crowded area with the amazing beauty of Hinalayan views of  Mt. Gauri Shankar, Langtang, Choba Bhamare, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Himal-chuli, etc. After reaching Kakani, we will take our lunch and rest for a few minutes. Then we’ll start our first hike. We will follow the trail with a climb to the ridge on the route to Pataswor Bhanjyang with the Himalayan views. Slowly, we will pass through some villages with farm fields and finally to the forests. After 3 – 4 hours of trek, we will reach Narayan Bhanjyang for our overnight stay with a spot of Kathmandu view.

Day 03Trek from Narayan Bhanjyang to Shivapuri Danda Ridge (2,732m, 5-6 hours)

After a fresh breakfast in the morning. We will follow the trail to Shivapuri ridge. We will make our descent by walking through a forest with a pleasant environment to the northern hill top of Shivapuri ridge. After a few hours of trek, we will even make a steep climb to reach Shivapuri Danda ridge with the wildlife beauties and extreme beauty of the central and northern Himalayan ranges. We will stay overnight in Shivapuri Danda with the green nature and pleasant views.

Day 04Trek from Shivapuri Danda Ridge to Chisapani (2,134m, 4-5 hours)

With the sunrise view, we will take our breakfast with a view of Langtang and the Jugal Himalayan range. We will slowly make our hike through the pleasant environment of rhododendron, oaks and pine forests. Then, we will slowly follow the downhill trail for a few hours through dense forest with the wildlife. We will be accompanied by the pleasant environment and the beautiful smell of flowers. After a few hours of trek, we will reach Chisapani ridge, which covers the beauty of the northern Himalayas like Annapurna in the far west, Jugal Himal, Gaurishankar and Numbur towards the east. Then we will stay overnight in Chisapani.

Day 05Trek from Chisapani to Nagarkot (2,170m, 5-6 hours)

After a peaceful night with the beauty of nature. Today we will make our next day hike to reach Nagarkot hill. After a fresh breakfast in the morning. We will start our hike through a forest trail with an amazing view of the northern Himalayas.  We will be accompanied by the sounds of beautiful birds of more than 10 species. An abundance of wildlife has been scattered here with indian leopards and himalayan blace bear. We can even see animals like porcupine, mongoose, jungle cat, pangolin, etc. 

We will even pass through many villages with an amazing lifestyle and culture. We will be accompanied by the beauty of himalayas and the beauty of villages with old stone houses and traditional agricultural systems. After the hike of 6 – 7 hours, we will finally reach Nagarkot. Nagarkot hill is one of the most famous places for the sunrise and sunset views. We will enjoy the sunset view from Nagarkot hill station and stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 06Trek from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel (2,100m, 6 hrs)

We will wake up early in the morning to see the amazing view of the eastern and middle Himalayan views, including Mt. Everest, with sunrise. After a fresh breakfast in the morning, we will start our hike toward Dhulikhel. With amazing enjoyment, we will make our trail through pine forests and some terraced fields. After a few hours of hiking, we will reach Nala villages with many countryside activities. We will be able to explore the agricultural beauty with seasonal farming. Then we will slowly reach Dhulikhel. 

Dhulikhel is well known for Newari culture and tradition. Dhulikel even offers the amazing beauty of the northern Himalayas with exotic species of birds. We can even enjoy zip flyers here with safety and sound. Enjoying the Newari food and drinks, we will stay overnight in Dhulikhel.

Day 07Trek from Dhulikhel to Namo Buddha (1,750m, 3-4 hours)

After a fresh breakfast in the morning. Today, we will make our next amazing day with a hike to Nam Buddha. Since it is not a trekking trail, it covers an amazing view with an amazing monastery. After following a small road for a few hours, we will reach Namo Buddha. Namo Buddha covers a large monastery on top of a hill that offers a panoramic view with ancient history. It includes the story of Gautam Buddha with amazing statues and caves. Namo Buddha monastery even includes a large monk school. Exploring the beauty and history of Namo Buddha, we will stay overnight in Namo Buddha.

Day 08Trek from Namo Buddha to Panauti (1750m, 3-4 hours) and Drive Back to Kathmandu (1 and a half hours)

Leaving behind the beauty of Namo Buddha. Today, we will make our downhill trek for 2- 3 hours after breakfast. We will pass or trail through green fields of rice and other crops according to the season. We will experience a Hindu cultural village with the beauty of Unmatta Bhairav Temple, Indreshwar Temple and Durbar Square that covers ancient architecture and statues. Panauti is a Newari cultural village which was originally given by King Bhupatindra to his sister, located near Roshi Khola. After exploring the beauty of Panauti, we will take a rest and enjoy Newari food for lunch. Then we will slowly make our drive for 2- 3 hours to Kathmandu as the ending point of the trip.

Day 09Transfer to the Airport for Final Departure

Your adventure for this trip comes to an end today! We will take you to the airport before your scheduled flight. On your way home, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
