Tilicho Peak (7,134m) expedition is one of the most attractive 7000m expeditions in the Annapurna Region. Located about 210 km west of Kathmandu, this attractive place will attract your attention and leave you speechless.
The peak was first climbed in 1978 when Mr Emanuel Schmutz from a French expedition reached the top of the peak. Mr Schmutz summited the peak from the North West shoulder, which has now become the normal climbing route by the government of Nepal and the Department of Tourism. Tilicho Peak is the highest point of the Great Barrier, which links Khangsar Kang (7,458m) and Nilgiri North (7,061m) together. Tilicho Peak is a mountain in the Nepalese Himalaya, near Annapurna. The Peak was first found in 1950 by a team led by Maurice Herzog, who was attempting to discover Annapurna I.
Tilicho Peak Expedition is also one of the most challenging 7000m climbs. Hence, previous peak climbing experience and good physical fitness are very crucial for the successful climb of Tilicho Peak. We will also have the opportunity to explore the highest lake on earth, i.e., Tilicho Lake (4,920m).
In this 30-day Tilicho Peak expedition, we follow the classic trekking route of Annapurna Circuit up to Manang village and then proceed towards Tilicho Lake to approach the mountain via Khangsar and Besi Khola. The normal climbing season in Nepal is March-May (Spring) and October to November (Autumn). However, summer is probably the best time to visit Tilicho Lake because the weather is considerably warmer and the trail is easier.
Organized and guided by Himalaya Sacred Trek & Expedition, this expedition offers a perfect blend of technical challenge, high-altitude adventure, and the sacred beauty of the Annapurna Himalaya.

Namaste and Heartily welcome to Nepal. Our company representatives welcome you warmly at the international airport of Kathmandu and transfer you to the hotel. You take your rest and enjoy your meal in the evening. Also, the guide would do a briefing or explain to you about the trek. Overnight at the hotel.
Today is set aside for peak climbing preparation and briefing. We will organize and check all necessary climbing gear and equipment, review the climbing route and itinerary, and attend a detailed briefing. After completing the preparations, if time allows and participants are interested, we may explore nearby sites. This day ensures everyone is fully prepared as we begin our peak climbing journey from tomorrow.
From Kathmandu valley, we will start our journey to a small but old town of Besisahar. The sight of hills as well as deteriorating rivers will keep us fascinated during the journey. The ride will be about seven to eight hours long. We will be spending the night in a local lodge after arriving at Besisahar.
After having breakfast, we will head towards Chame, viewing the beautiful scenery of the vicinity. On the way, we can view the beautiful region of Dharapani, crossing the great Marshyangdi River. The vegetation and settlements start to be different from here as we will be at a higher altitude. The influence of the Tibetan lifestyle is strong in Chame. Also, the view of the Peak is beautiful from Chame, and we will spend the night in a local teahouse after arriving at Chame.
Today, our journey leads the trek to Pisang, a small village along the bank of the Marshyangdi River. We will walk through beautiful coniferous forests and small settlements of mountain people. A steep and narrow path through a very dense forest will bring us to a dramatic curved rock face, rising 1,500m above the river. As the trail opens up, we get surrounded by majestic Himalayan Peaks. After walking through these wonderful suites, we reached Pisang. Overnight at Lower Pisang.
There are two routes that we can follow today. If you take the upper route, i.e., the route through Upper Pisang via Geru, the scenery will be outstanding. We feel like we are horizontally in front of the majestic peaks. The panoramic view of the mountain peaks, such as Annapurna, Pisang Peak, and several others, will definitely allure us. We notice a contrast with the landscape and vegetation from today onwards. The cold and dry climate creates a much harsher environment. We pay a memorable visit to the Barge monastery, the largest in the entire district of Manang. Overnight in Manang.
Today is the scheduled acclimatization day. It is not recommended to stay idle, but a short walk to a higher altitude will be better to get acclimatized with the altitude. Manang is a good place to do that, as the next two days will be a very challenging and tiring trek for us with rapid gain in altitude. We should never be confident with the altitude and always be cautious. Bhojo Gompa or Gangapurna Lake is worth visiting from an acclimatization point of view. We made an easy excursion a little distance away to a village called Vraga, a small old village with a monastery. At this juncture, we also make our short trip to the Himalayan Rescue Association, where we can get some ideas about mountain sickness. Overnight at Manang.
After breakfast, we leave Manang and follow the trail that demands elevation all the way up to Kangsar. During our Trek, we are rewarded with good views of Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Chulu West Peak, Chulu East Peak, Chulu Far East Peak and Tilicho Peak. We will cross over the Khangsar Khola bridge to reach Khangsar village for our overnight stay.
Today, we leave Besi Khola and follow the trail that goes over various ice lakes and glaciers to reach Tilicho Base Camp for our overnight stay. During our trek today, we have more chances of spotting wild animals such as Blue Sheep, Himalayan Tahr and several species of birds. There are tea houses at Tilicho Base Camp, where we will spend our overnight before climbing Tilicho Peak. Our Sherpa climbing crew will make preparations for further climbing.
This is the most important day for all climbers. And before climbing, we do a Buddhist ceremony as well as pray to god for success, which can take about 2 days, one for a rest day and the next day for the ceremony. And after that, we start our climbing period. After the peak summit, we take some photos and view the scenarios, then we trek down to Base Camp.
Having achieved our target, the summit of Tilicho Peak, we make a relaxed start and prepare for our return trek. After breakfast, we left Base Camp and we descended back to Khangsar for our overnight stay.
The trek today begins as we head along the Kone Khola, which runs all the way up to our destination for the day, Thorong-La Phedi. We will follow the destination trail along the Kone River to the wooden suspension bridge. From here, the trail ascends through the narrow, rough hills to Thorong-la Phedi. Stay overnight at the lodge.
Today we will descend along the trail following the Thorong Khola (river) and traverse along the riverbank up to the Thorong La Pass (5,416m). This pass is also the world’s largest pass and offers stunning views of the Annapurna and Chulu Massif. From there, we will trek above the forests and farmlands for about five hours to reach Muktinath. Muktinath is a revered religious site for Buddhists and Hindus. A famous sacred temple of Lord Vishnu is situated here with 108 stone taps. Stay overnight at the lodge.
We will drive to Jomsom via Kagbeni. After having lunch in Muktinath, we started our journey. We will traverse along the traditional Thakali village and dense forests of pine and fir to reach Jomsom. Jomsom is famous for strong mid-day winds and has plenty of modern luxuries such as the internet and restaurants. Overnight at Jomsom.
On this day, we will drive back to Pokhara, and then we will transfer you to the hotel in Pokhara. The offers scenic treats throughout, and the diverse landscapes and towering peaks are a relief to sore eyes. Upon reaching Pokhara, we can rest or enjoy the beautiful city and its attractions. The lakeside area is especially famous for offering lively nights.
On this day, we will drive back to Kathmandu along the Prithvi Highway. The drive presents beautiful roadside settlements and gorgeous landscapes all the way to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will transfer you to the hotel, and then you can rest or shop for souvenirs to mark the end of the adventurous journey. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Your adventure in Nepal comes to an end today! We will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
