TRIP DETAILS

Dhampus Peak (6,012 m), also known as Thapa Peak, is a popular trekking peak in Nepal. Located between the magnificent Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, this beautiful peak lies close to the Dhaulagiri massif and the scenic lake city of Pokhara. Its accessibility and stunning surroundings make it a favourite among trekkers seeking an authentic Himalayan climbing experience.

Dhampus Peak climbing is ideal for amateur mountaineers and adventurous trekkers who wish to add a mountaineering element to their trekking journey. Many climbers also use this peak as an opportunity to practice basic alpine skills. The off-the-beaten trails through Tukuche and Tatopani offer a peaceful and rewarding trekking experience through diverse landscapes.

The Nepal Mountaineering Association has classified Dhampus Peak as an easy trekking peak. The climb is non-technical, and at just over 6,000 meters, it is achievable for climbers with good physical fitness and some prior trekking experience. During the expedition, the route approaches the peak via the famous Dhampus Pass (5,200 m), a glacial pass that requires careful and cautious movement.

The trail features breathtaking scenery, pleasant weather, and remarkable mountain views. Although Dhampus Peak is open for climbing throughout the year, the best seasons are March to May and September to November. From the summit, climbers are rewarded with panoramic views of more than thirty Himalayan peaks. The ascent is both adventurous and deeply fulfilling. Dhampus Peak offers an ideal introduction to Himalayan mountaineering, combining breathtaking alpine scenery with rich cultural experiences.

The journey begins in Kathmandu and continues to Pokhara before driving to Marpha, where the trek starts through the dramatic, desert-like landscapes of the Dhaulagiri region. Along the route, trekkers enjoy spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, Tilicho Peak, Himchuli, and surrounding Himalayan giants. Camps are set at Yak Kharka, Middle Camp, and Dhampus Peak Base Camp, from where the summit is attempted via the west ridge route. Although technical climbing skills are not required, good physical fitness and prior high-altitude trekking experience are beneficial.

The trip is further enriched by warm local hospitality and a relaxing visit to the natural hot springs at Tatopani, making Dhampus Peak a perfect first-time climbing experience in Nepal. You will also have the opportunity to relax in the natural hot springs of Tatopani. Dhampus Peak is an excellent destination for anyone wishing to experience mountaineering for the first time.

Day 02Preparation and Peak Briefing

Today is set aside for peak climbing preparation and briefing. We will organize and check all necessary climbing gear and equipment, review the climbing route and itinerary, and attend a detailed briefing. After completing the preparations, if time allows and participants are interested, we may explore nearby sites. This day ensures everyone is fully prepared as we begin our peak climbing journey from tomorrow.

Day 03Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (850m, 25 minutes)

The short and scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara offers one of the most beautiful aerial journeys in Nepal. As the aircraft takes off from Kathmandu Valley, you will enjoy breathtaking views of terraced farmlands, winding rivers, deep gorges, lush green hills, and traditional villages scattered across the landscape.

On a clear day, the flight provides spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayan range. You can see several famous snow-capped peaks, including Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu (8,163m), Lamjung Himal, and the magnificent Annapurna Range. Among the Annapurna range, notable peaks such as Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Dhaulagiri (8,167m) can often be seen from the aircraft.

After arriving in Pokhara, explore the lakeside town and enjoy some last-minute shopping. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 04Drive from Pokhara to Marpha (2,670m, 7-8 hours)

The drive from Pokhara to Marpha follows the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing dramatic gorges, waterfalls, terraced fields, and traditional villages such as Beni, Tatopani, Ghasa, and Lete. As you ascend toward Mustang, the scenery changes from lush greenery to rugged mountain landscapes. Approaching Marpha, you enter a wide valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks, where this charming “apple capital of Nepal” welcomes you with its whitewashed houses, stone-paved lanes, and peaceful atmosphere.

Day 05Acclimatization Day and Hiking

Marpha, known as the “Apple Capital of Nepal,” offers a unique, Tibetan-like landscape. Enjoy local apple products and explore the village. Short hikes in the surrounding area help with acclimatization before trekking to higher altitudes. Overnight in Marpha.

Day 06Trek from Marpha to Yak Kharka (3,680m, 5-6 hours)

Leave civilization behind as you trek along terraced fields and ascending trails toward Yak Kharka. Cross thinning tree lines and enjoy stunning Himalayan views along the way. Overnight at Yak Kharka Camp.

Day 07Trek from Yak Kharka to Middle Camp (Kalopani) (4,900m, 4-5 hours)

We make our way to Middle Camp through rugged alpine terrain, offering spectacular mountain views. The gradual ascent leads us steadily to the camp, where we set up tents and prepare for the next day’s climb.

Day 08Trek from Middle Camp (Kalopani) to Dhampus Base Camp (5,244m, 3-4 hours)

After an early morning start, we climbed from Middle Camp to Dhampus Base Camp. The trail ascends gradually through a mountain pass, with a challenging glacial section requiring careful navigation on slippery surfaces. Regular breaks help us manage the demanding climb and conserve energy for the summit push.

Upon arrival at Base Camp, our experienced guides and Sherpa crew assist in setting up camp. A final check of climbing gear and equipment is conducted in preparation for the summit attempt the next day.

Day 09Summit Dhampus Peak (6,012 m) and Return to Base Camp (8-9 hours)

This is the most important day of the expedition. After days of preparation and acclimatization, we attempt the majestic Dhampus Peak. Properly equipped and driven by determination, we begin our ascent. Our goal is to reach the summit before midday, as strong afternoon winds can create challenging conditions. Expert guides remain with us throughout the climb, providing instruction and support every step of the way. From the summit, enjoy panoramic views of Tilicho Peak, Tukuche Peak, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Annapurna South, Nilgiri North & South, and Dhaulagiri. Capture photographs and cherish the memories before descending via the same route back to Base Camp.

Day 10Trek back from Base Camp to Marpha (2,670m, 7-8 hours)

We descend to Marpha via the glacial pass. The slippery terrain poses risks, and climbers must exercise extreme caution. Upon arrival in Marpha Village, overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 11Drive from Marpha to Pokhara (850m, 7-8 hours)

On the way back from Marpha to Pokhara, we will take a 1½-hour rest stop at Tatopani. The name “Tatopani” literally means hot water, and the village is famous for its natural hot springs. Here, you can relax and soak in the warm waters, allowing your tired muscles to recover from the demanding climb.

After the break, we continued our drive to Pokhara, where we checked in at the hotel and rested. In the evening, enjoy the vibrant nightlife of Pokhara. Countless bars, pubs, cafés, and nightclubs offer entertainment, or take a leisurely stroll along the shores of Phewa Lake.

Day 12Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,400m, 25 minutes)

Take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu, enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and hills. Alternatively, opt for a scenic 6-7 hour bus ride along the winding Prithvi Highway, passing through hills and valleys. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, check into your hotel and rest.

Day 13Leisure Day in Kathmandu

(Optional) After the long, exhausting trek, you might have worn out a bit. Today, you can do some relaxation activities or just take some rest and connect with your friends and family back home. You can also just wander down the lively streets of Thamel and Asan and buy some souvenirs. In the evening, your tour officer will pick you up for dinner at one of the cultural restaurants of Thamel. After the dinner, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 16Transport to Airport for Final Departure
