TRIP DETAILS

Tent peak (5,663m/18,575ft), known as Tharpu Chuli in Nepali, is located towards the south of the Annapurna Base Camp. It offers a thrilling experience on the journey to its summit. Situated in the centre of the Annapurna Sanctuary opposite to Macchapurche (6,997m), it is considered to be one of the easier peaks to climb. The climbing journey is not just famed for its rich cultural diversity, ranging from the Gurung, but also boasts a plethora of ecological bounty. Our ultimate goal is summiting the Tent peak or Tharpu Chuli Peak, which offers us panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Annapurna, Hiunchuli and others.

18 Days Tent Peak Climbing begins and ends in Kathmandu, but the real trek starts from Nayapul, located near Pokhara, the beautiful lake city. Reaching the base camp of Mt.Machhapuchhre gives us another good reason to choose the Tent Peak (Tharpu Chuli) Climbing trip. We trek in the Annapurna region, admiring the diverse flora, fauna and culture of Nepal. The summit offers spectacular views of hanging glaciers, moraines, wild mountains and Annapurna Sanctuary. Climbing along the ridge is somewhat easy and somewhat technically difficult. Prior experience of climbing would add to your climbing journey.

Climbing along the ridge is mostly straightforward, though certain sections are technically demanding, and prior climbing experience is beneficial. As this expedition involves both trekking and mountaineering, participants should be physically fit with good endurance. Before the summit attempt, the team leader from Himalaya Sacred Trek and Expedition provides essential climbing training, safety briefings, and guidance on proper techniques, including clear instructions on do’s and don’ts during the climb to ensure a safe and rewarding ascent.

Highlights of the Tent Peak:

  • Also known as the Tharpu Chuli (a popular climbing peak in the Annapurna region)
  • Summit offers the fabulous views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Himchuli and the Fishtail range
  • Rainforest jungles and arid alpine rain shadow
  • Explore the beauty of the Annapurna Sanctuary
  • Experience Gurung culture in the charming village guesthouse
  • Camping at a high altitude beyond the South Annapurna Glacier

Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu

We complete our customs formalities at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Afterwards, there will be a representative from our company who will take you to your hotel. We can then spend the rest of the day resting. In the evening, we get to try Nepalese cuisine at a welcome dinner hosted by our company. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02Preparation Day

Today is set aside for peak climbing preparation and briefing. We will organize and check all necessary climbing gear and equipment, review the climbing route and itinerary, and attend a detailed briefing. After completing the preparations, if time allows and participants are interested, we may explore nearby sites. This day ensures everyone is fully prepared as we begin our peak climbing journey from tomorrow.

Day 03Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (850m, 5-6 hours)

We set off for Pokhara early in the morning on a tourist bus. Our journey will mostly be along the Trishuli River. Pokhara is popularly dubbed as the ‘ lake city’ owing to the large number of lakes the city has. In addition, the views of the Himalayan peaks from Pokhara are astounding. After reaching Pokhara, stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 04Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and Trek to Ghandruk (1,940m, 5-6 hours)

We drive for about an hour to reach Nayapul, from where we start our trek. Upon reaching Birethanti, we trek uphill on the trail to Ghandruk, enjoying panoramic views of the mountains. We pass by beautiful villages and admire the rural lifestyle of western Nepal. We cross the suspension bridge over Khumnu Khola and finally reach Ghandruk. From the village, we get a good view of Machhapurche, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli mountains. Overnight at Ghandruk.

Day 05Trek from Ghandruk to Chhomrong (2,170m, 6 hours)

We climb for an hour up to Ghandruk, and then a steep descent takes us to the Kimron Khola. After another steep ascent from Khimron Khola, we will walk for about an hour on an easy trail. Then we take a steep climb, continuing up to Chhomrong. Towering above the village is the mighty peak of Annapurna South, with Machhapurche facing it across the valley. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located at the top of the massive Annapurna. Overnight in Chhomrong.

Day 06Trek from Chhomrong to Dovan (2,600m, 5-6 hours)

The trail moves along the Modi Khola, leaving behind inhabited foothills. We crossed a suspension bridge over Chhomrong Khola and reached Sinuwa after walking for a while. From here, our path is on a relatively flat trail. We pass through a thick rhododendron forest up to Khuldighar. Then we descend on steep stone steps into lush bamboo and rhododendron forests, finally reaching Dovan. Overnight at Dovan.

Day 07Trek from Dovan to Deurali (3,230m, 1 hour 30 minutes)

From Dovan, we walk on a trail alongside Modi Khola. We pass through the Himalaya hotel and Hinku cave before reaching Deurali. On today’s short trip, we also have to walk on a small section which is prone to avalanches. The short trek will allow us to acclimatize to the high altitude and prepare for the next day’s trip. Overnight in Deurali.

Day 08Trek from Deurali to Machapuchare Base Camp (3,700m, 3-4 hours)

After about half an hour’s walk from Deurali, we will find ourselves in the middle of a river bed surrounded by giant snow-covered mountains. The hike to Machapuchare Base camp is somewhat strenuous, but the unfolding views of the majestic Macchapurche is certainly worth it. We enjoy looking at Mt.Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gangapurna and of course, the Fishtail or Machhapurche itself. Overnight in Machhapuchhre Base Camp.

Day 09Acclimatization and Preparation

There will be a short briefing today. Our climbing leader will talk about what we can look forward to during the Tent Peak climbing. There will also be a basic training on peak climbing techniques and the best way to utilize the climbing gear, such as ice axe, climbing boot, harness, jumar, and to go up and down using ropes. Additionally, we also learn about knots and gears. Himalayan Glacier believes that the training will help boost our confidence, ensuring a successful summit of the Tent Peak. We can spend the rest of the afternoon going for short hikes nearby and resting. Overnight at Machapuchare Base Camp.

Day 10Trek from Machapuchare Base Camp to Cave Camp (4,250m, 5-6 hours)

We move ahead on a trail alongside the Modi Khola. After walking for some time, we see the south Annapurna Glacier to our right. The trail from the glacier leads up to the base camp of Annapurna South. However, we move straight ahead, cross a bridge and continue further up until we reach the Cave Camp. Overnight in Cave Camp.

Day 11Trek from Cave Camp to High Camp (5,200m, 4-5 hours)

We ascend on a steep trail to the Tent Peak High Camp. We mostly like to use a fixed rope and a helmet while climbing today. We ascend a 50-60 degree step path for around 2-3 hours and then walk on a 30-degree glacier. From the high camp, we get panoramic views of Hiunchuli (6,441m), Annapurna South (7,229m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Machhapurchare and others. After setting up the high camp, we spent the remainder of the day discovering the surrounding areas and preparing for the summit.

Day 12Trek to Summit Tent Peak (5,663m) and Return to High Camp (9-10 hours)

We begin our journey to the summit around 2-3 am. We walk on a wall of rock for around 2 hours, and then we walk on flat snow for around an hour. Next, we climb on a steep slope of 70 degrees (100m). Then we walk on fixed ropes to reach the final summit. After conquering Tharpu Chuli, we return by the same route to the High Camp. Overnight in High Camp.

Day 13Trek from High Camp to Machapuchare Base Camp (3,700m, 4-5 hours)

From the high camp of Tent Peak, we descend to Machhapuchhre Base Camp. We use the same trail that we had used previously. After reaching Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we took a much-needed rest. Overnight in Machhapuchhre Base Camp.

Day 14Trek from Machapuchare Base Camp to Bamboo (2,310m, 6-7 hours)

From the Base Camp, we descend on the same trail we used to come up to Bamboo. We can enjoy the views of waterfalls and pass through forests, soaking in great views of Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli mountains. Overnight in Bamboo.

Day 15Trek from Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1,760m, 6-7 hours)

From the Bamboo, we ascend the thousand stone steps that will take us to Upper Chhomrong. From Chhomrong, we descend to Jhinu Danda. While here, we can relax in a natural hot spring. Overnight in Jhinu Danda.

Day 16Trek from Jhinu Danda to Nayapul (6 hours) and Drive Back to Pokhara (1 hour)

We begin our trek after breakfast and walk on a trail near Modi Khola. We stopped for lunch in Kyumi village. After lunch, we trek to Syauli Bazar and then down to Birethanti. From Birethanti, we trek for about one hour and reach Nayapul. The trek ends at Nayapul. From Nayapul, we take a vehicle and reach Pokhara in about an hour. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 17Drive Back from Pokhara to Kathmandu (5-6 hours)

On this day, we will drive back to Kathmandu along the Prithvi Highway. The drive presents beautiful roadside settlements and gorgeous landscapes all the way to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will transfer you to the hotel, and then you can rest or shop for souvenirs to mark the end of the adventurous journey. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
