TRIP DETAILS

The Manaslu region offers another surprise to the trekkers in the form of Mt. Himlung. Mt. Himlung lies to the northeast of the Annapurna range with an aspiring height of 7,126m. This mountain, which lies in a secluded area of Nepal, borders Tibet. Unlike Mt. Himlung, it is quite easier considering the technicalities. Himlung was first climbed via the east ridge on October 27, 1983, by a Joint expedition from Nepal and the Hirosaki University Alpine Club led by Junji Kurotaki. Previous attempts had been made in 1963 by a Japanese expedition from the Den Kyushu Alpine club led by Hisachika Zengyou, in 1994 by a British expedition and in 2009 by a French team. On October 30, 2009, a Japanese team led by climber Osamu Tanabe submitted Himlung via its previously unclimbed west face and the west ridge.

The Himlung Himal Expedition with Himalaya Sacred Trek and Expedition follows a fascinating route through the culturally rich Tibetan-influenced villages of Nar and Phu. The Base Camp is established at an altitude of approximately 4,900 meters, located at the upper end of a meadow above Phu village. The expedition typically sets up three high camps to reach the summit: Camp I (5,450 m), Camp II (6,000 m), and Camp III (6,350 m).

The Himlung Himal expedition trail also offers us mysterious culture and scenery of splendid views of mountain peaks like Nanda Devi, Api Himal, Kappa Chuli Peak, Rajramba and many other Himalayan mountain peaks. As being technically not a challenging trail, all climbers or mountaineers who are seeking this daredevil trail must have some previous mountaineering experience, as you must be physically and mentally fit and also require a high level of endurance. As it passes along the high peaks and passes, glaciers, amazing landscapes, remote villages and narrow gullies, dense forests, beautiful ancient monasteries and unique cultural settlements are the main attractions of this trail.

The best season to climb Mt. Himlung Himal is especially Autumn (Sep-Dec). The minimum number of people for this trek is 2, and the maximum is 14. With expert planning, experienced Sherpa support, and a strong focus on safety and acclimatization, Himalaya Sacred Trek and Expedition offers a well-organized and rewarding Himlung Himal Expedition for serious mountaineers seeking a unique Himalayan experience.

Highlights of the Himlung Himal Expedition:

  • Technically straightforward ascent ideal for those wanting to discover how they perform on a 7000m peak
  • Trek to base camp passes villages with Tibetan villages to Naar and Phu
  • Amazing views of Manaslu Himalayan range, Annapurna Himalayan Range and other surrounding high peaks
  • Biodiversity, flora and fauna around the Manaslu region

Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu

Namaste and Heartily welcome to Nepal. Our company representatives welcome you warmly at the international airport of Kathmandu and transfer you to the hotel. You take your rest and enjoy your meal in the evening. Also, the trekking guide would do a briefing or explain to you about the trek. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02Preparation Day

Today is set aside for peak climbing preparation and briefing. We will organize and check all necessary climbing gear and equipment, review the climbing route and itinerary, and attend a detailed briefing. After completing the preparations, if time allows and participants are interested, we may explore nearby sites. This day ensures everyone is fully prepared as we begin our peak climbing journey from tomorrow.

Day 03Drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar (760m, 5-6 hours)

From Kathmandu valley, we will start our journey to a small but old town of Besisahar. The sight of hills as well as deteriorating rivers will keep us fascinated during the journey. The ride will be about seven to eight hours long. We will be spending the night in a local lodge after arriving at Besisahar.

Day 04Drive from Besisahar to Koto (2,600m, 5 hours)

Today we will drive to Koto, which will take around four to five hours. You can enjoy the spectacular mountain views of Annapurna II and Manalsu, and other peaks along the way. The trail continues through pine forests till Latamarang, which takes about one and a half hours. Finally, we will reach Koto, a small village inhabited by Gurung communities.

Day 05Trek from Koto to Meta (3,560m, 7-8 hours)

After registering our restricted area permit at the police check post, we will travel along the banks of Soti Khola through wonderful pine forests, pass suspension bridges and cascading waterfalls and reach Dharamshala, which takes about five hours. From here, the woods become thinner, and the vistas get wider. We continued trekking for about one and a half hours through the forest, ascending steeply till Meta village on the Tibetan Plateau. The views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal look great from here. Overnight at a lodge.

Day 06Trek from Meta to Phu Gaun (4,080m, 7-8 hours)

We will ascend and descend the trail along the suspension bridge, and we will reach the deserted fields of Chyaku. Keep climbing and reach a small pass with excellent views of the Annapurna, and reach Kyang, where we can see outstanding views of Pisang Peak and Annapurna II. Then we pass the Phu Khola on a rocky trail past the submarine rocks and maybe some campsites, which takes about 3 hours. We will see the colourful chortens that Nar and Phu are famous for, as well as blue sheep. We get to experience the diversity of culture, nature, and religion, and we see the people’s daily life and the Tashi Lhakhang Monastery. We will continue walking across a small glacial stream to a larger glacier stream with a half bridge. After one and a half hours, we will reach the Phu gate leading to Phu village. From there, we can see the splendid views of Himlung Himal and other snow peaks that are clearly visible. Overnight at a lodge or homestay.

Day 07Acclimatization at Phu

An acclimatization day in Phu is recommended because of the high altitude. Phu village itself is an interesting village, and a day is well spent sitting with the villagers as they spin their yak and sheep wool, pound mustard seeds into a paste for oil or go about their other daily chores.

Day 08Trek from Phu Gaun to Himlung Base Camp (4,900m, 4-5 hours)

We will trek to Himlung Base Camp. We hike towards the east through a glacial valley that leads us to Himlung base camp. The mountain views give us tremendous energy, and it’s also a great camping place. Then we will start to set up camp and stay overnight.

Day 09-24Climbing Period (Base Camp- Himlung Summit- Base Camp)

During the climbing period, we will climb Himlung Himal. We will consider various things such as acclimatization, our health, safety, weather, etc. And then forward summit the mountain. We will go to camp III from base camp, then slowly start to summit, and after summit, we will descend back to base camp after fulfilling all the tasks.

Day 25Trek from Himlung Base Camp to Phu Gaun (4,080m, 2 hours)

Today, we will head our way back to beautiful Phu village. After the experience of climbing, we will trek back full of memories. We will stay overnight in Phu village.

Day 26Trek from Phu Gaun to Meta (3,560m, 5 hours)

We will descend back the same trail as before. We will travel along the banks of the Soti Khola through wonderful pine forests, pass suspension bridges and cascading waterfalls. We will stay overnight in Meta.

Day 27Trek from Meta to Koto (2,600m, 6-7 hours)

We will trek back to Koto village. It will be our last trekking day for the Himlung Expedition.

Day 28Drive from Koto to Besisahar (760m, 5 hours)

Today, we will drive all the way downhill to Besisahar. It’s about a 5-hour crazy drive to pass about 78 kilometres. During the drive, you will witness majestic landscapes, just awesome.

Day 29Drive Back from Besisahar to Kathmandu (1,400m, 5-6 hours)

On this day, we will drive back to Kathmandu. The drive presents beautiful roadside settlements and gorgeous landscapes all the way to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we will transfer you to the hotel, and then you can rest or shop for souvenirs to mark the end of the adventurous journey. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 30Leisure Day in Kathmandu

After the long, exhausting trek, you might have worn out a bit. Today, you can do some relaxation activities or just take some rest and connect with your friends and family back home. You can also just wander down the lively streets of Thamel and Asan and buy some souvenirs. In the evening, your tour officer will pick you up for dinner at one of the cultural restaurants of Thamel. After the dinner, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 31Transfer to Airport for Final Departure

Your adventure of the Himlung expedition comes to an end today! We will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home, you will have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
